Jul 21 (ST) Former Prez Maithripala Sirisena has acquired 10 state properties for himself using Swarnabhoomi title deeds awarded when he was Prez. This was revealed through the asset declaration submitted by the former Prez to the Supreme Court. Five of the ten properties acquired by Mr. Sirisena in this manner also have houses. Nominations for presidential election in mid-August, voting on Sept 21
Jul 21 (ST) Nominations for the prez election are set to be accepted only in mid-August, not earlier, with the announcement of the exact date to be made in the coming week, Election Commission sources said. Accordingly, the election is now expected to be held on Sept 21, instead of Oct 5 or 12, as earlier indicated. Tusker Agbo shot in the eye with catapult, youth arrested
Jul 21 (DM) An individual who shot the tusker Agbo frequenting Tirappane area, in its eye with a catapult, was taken into custody by Tirappane Police yesterday. The suspect was a resident of Akkara Panaha in Ethungama, Tirappane in the Anuradhapura District. Police arrested him during investigations of a complaint received from the Organisation to Protect Wild Elephants and on information received by Senior DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya from a resident of the area.

Jul 23 (EN) More than 135,000 Aswesuma poverty alleviation beneficiaries cannot receive their monthly dues due to lack of bank accounts.
