UAE's Etisalat bids for Millicom Sri Lanka

Sep 14 (Reuters) Emirates Telecommunications Corp (Etisalat) said on Monday it had submitted a binding offer on Sept. 4 to buy a 100 percent share in Millicom, Sri Lanka. Sep 14 (LBO) Severe financial repression and money printing to finance post-2004 deficit triggered a housing and credit bubble and drove savers to seek higher rates in unregistered financial institutions, an economist has said. Sri Lanka economy expands 2.1-pct in second quarter

Sep 14 (LBO) Sri Lanka's economy expanded 2.1 percent in the second quarter of 2009 from 7.0 percent a year earlier, but was up from the 1.5 percent growth in the first quarter, the government's statistics office said. Growth for the first half of 2009 was 1.8 percent compared with 6.6 percent in the first six months of 2008. A/H1N1 flu cases rise to 90 in Sri Lanka

Sep 14 (Xinhua) Sri Lankan health authorities said on Monday that one more A/H1N1 flu case has been confirmed, bring the cumulative total cases to 90 in the country. The Epidemiological Unit of the Health Ministry said in its latest report that the new patient has arrived form India. Health officials said about 90 percent of the patients contracted the disease abroad, while 10 percent of them contracted in Sri Lanka. more..

Owner nabbed for defaulting Rs. 430 million

Sep 14 (DM) The proprietor of Sriyavi Homes Lands and Investment was taken into custody by a special police team in Bambalapitiya yesterday for allegedly defaulting Rs. 430 million promising real estate and housing construction.
